Group of Several
2015 Eggs, Roosters or Chickens - Which came first.
Acrylic on Canvas
4 x 3 x 1.5 ft.
January 6th, 2016 to February 6th, the Group of Several completed the series of "Which Comes First the Chicken or the Egg" for the Gabriola Medical Clinic lobby foyer.
May 2016 we were asked if we could hang a show at the Old Crow Cafe in the Village of Gabriola. Stunning original art was hung by the 11 members.
June 1- September1st, 2016 the Group of Several studied the Group of Seven. This show of 4 large composite GOS paintings is hanging at the Gabriola Royal Lepage Realty office. Wow! We did it. It is our "signature" style to do a composite. But this time we chose Mountains and Lakes by Lawren Harris and Mirror Lake by Franklin Carmichael. We also painted our own individual favourite GO7 pieces. These paintings have taken 2 months, so with a quick addition of the composite Gardens and Gates to hang in another area of the Realty Office we got the project done. Whew.
August 20-21st Gabriola Island Street Art arrives along with the weekend series of Plays. Don't miss this island event. The Group of Several has 3 booths on Lochinvar street, with all those chickens and roosters and eggs available.
The GROUP of SEVERAL evolved from committed artists volunteering with the After School Art Club grades 4-7 of Gabriola Island BC. The Students fundraise and attend of their own initiative, under the guidance of their school.
Judith Madsen, is a passionate art teacher, believes that art helps students think creatively outside and inside boxes; to have a joyful outlet in their lives; to sit quietly and focus; and best of all, to accomplish their own individual work of art.
Since 2006, Judith has been contributing as one of the instructors. In 2013, she agreed to teach the volunteers as well. The GROUP of SEVERAL was formed and took off as strongly as the childrens' group has done. It is now January 2019 and the GOS currently has 7 members. The work within the group is strengthening with every show opportunity.
Gabriola Community Medical Centre January 2019 Will be the presentation of two Gustav KLIMT paintings as a Composite piece. One is Mrs. Adele Bloch Bauer, the Woman in Gold and the second is Medicine, the Woman in Red.
- Down the hallway of the Medical Centre will be individual art pieces from The Group of Several in creative attempts to study Klimt's process.
- As a group we learned many art techniques creating the Klimt paintings. Expressionism, use of gold, silver leaf, Klimts symbols, and Egyptian and Japanese styles. Klimts love of fabrics and design is intricately detailed.
July 05-07 2019 The Group of Several will display the KLIMT ART at the Gabriola Arts Council Building.
Roberts Restaurant, Gabriola BC, show the ongoing roosters and chicken series.
March 2013 is our anniversary date. Currently there are 5 active members in 2019.
MISSION: The Group of Several are committed artists who immerse themselves in the creative process by painting, showing, sharing and learning, in an environment of joy, camaraderie and encouragement.
Formal and informal minutes are written for the monthly meetings. There is a yearly membership fee of $20 to cover our costs.
As the opportunity arises, we share individual workshop instruction.
Currently we paint a standard size, 12x12, 11x14 or 12x24 to create a SERIES group painting. Size limits for grouping of themed paintings are frequently 3 by 4 feet.
We take on the challenge of a SIGNATURE Composite painting every other year.
The Group of Several, or GOS is of course more than two GOSlings. We all belong to the Palette People of Gabriola Island, BC.
Tuesdays we paint at the Rollo Centre on Gabriola Island and receive a wealth of information from demonstrations and ideas from members.
On Fridays we paint all afternoon with great seriousness and only a slight amount of GOSsiping. We showcase our art throughout the island.
Each of us has a very distinct style.
Both the Series Theme Painting composite and the Signature Painting Composite are created together in a puzzle piece format to work artistically together. We create two of these each year and hang our individual pieces to be part of the themed show as well.
